Sélestat is ideally located. Halfway between Strasbourg and Mulhouse, it is the 5th largest commune in the Lower Rhine.

As well as being the capital of the arrondissement and canton, it is also the seat of the Sélestat communauté de communes, which is made up of all the neighbouring local authorities.

The town is also ideally served and easily accessible, whether by road, motorway or the many daily train journeys provided by the SNCF. Since 2011, there has also been a daily return TGV service to Paris.
