3 days in the heart of Alsace !

Sélestat, stories to live

Day 1

Morning :
The tour of Sélestat's historic centre begins with the ‘In the footsteps of the lion and the giant Sletto’ walking trail. The 2-hour itinerary takes in the main sights of the humanist city in 24 stages, all of which are described in detail in a brochure.

Lunch :
It's lunchtime, time for a much-needed break! On the terrace or in a more intimate setting, our restaurateurs will welcome you to satisfy every appetite.

Afternoon :
Refreshed after your meal, head for the Humanist Library. This museum invites you on a journey through medieval manuscripts and 15th and 16th century prints, in a resolutely modern building redesigned by the architect Rudy Ricciotti. Follow in the footsteps of the famous humanist Beatus Rhenanus thanks to the precious testimony left by his library, listed in UNESCO's Memory of the World register. Other treasures await you here, including the Baptismal Act of America (1507).

Time for a snack !
Enjoy a delicious pastry or homemade ice cream in one of our tearooms or to take away, and indulge in some peace and quiet in the Hortus Beatus garden or on the banks of the boating lake.

Day 2

Morning :
Take on the Haut-Kœnigsbourg massif!

En route, you'll discover a number of wildlife parks where you can enjoy a fascinating experience surrounded by monkeys or eagles, as well as the Cigoland leisure park where the little ones can have fun on the attractions and meet the storks as a family.

Lunch :
The parks where you will have spent the morning offer both fast food and tables where you can take your time.

Afternoon :
The Haut-Kœnigsbourg castle, on the heights of Orschwiller, its imposing silhouette dominates the whole plain: impossible to miss one of the most visited monuments in Alsace.

Haut-Koenigsbourg castle offers a magnificent panorama, and in fine weather it's not unusual to catch a glimpse of the Alps...

Or (alternative proposal)
If you feel like discovering a more contemporary side of the city, you can follow the contemporary art trail, which will take you from work of art to work of art integrated into the public space.

Evening :
For dinner, from the traditional winstub on the Alsace wine route to the Michelin-starred table, the chefs of the restaurants in the Sélestat region invite you to their table. Whether you're in the mood for sauerkraut, tarte flambée or simply looking for a crêperie or pizzeria in Selestat, you're sure to find a restaurant that will delight your taste buds!

Finally, to round off your short break in style and make sure you don't go home empty-handed, take the time to wander the shopping streets, looking for souvenirs and local produce to take home with you!

With your head full of memories, welcome back and... believe us, you'll be back!

Day 3

Morning :
For this second day, visit the Maison du Pain d'Alsace. It's impossible to miss this must-see place right in the heart of Sélestat. The smell of warm bread just out of the oven is an irresistible invitation to taste it. Entering the Maison du Pain means discovering the work of the bakers who make bread, kougelhopfs, pretzels and other regional and local specialities. But it's also a museum where you can find out more about the bakery trade, past and present, and the history of bread in all its forms, from the ear to the flour.

Lunch :
At lunchtime, for those who can't resist the temptation (from May to September), you can enjoy sandwiches prepared with local produce or quiches with a slice of homemade seasonal tart for dessert, in the lounge or on the terrace.

Afternoon :
Put on your trainers and discover part of the Ill*Wald nature reserve, a protected natural area just outside Sélestat. A 5km interpretation trail, l'Ill aux trésors, gives you an insight into the different landscapes, flora and fauna that have shaped the town. A great way to go green just outside the city.
