Since 2016, Sélestat has been awarded the Ville d'art et d'histoire (City of Art and History) label. This label, awarded by the French Ministry of Culture, is given to municipalities that are actively involved in the knowledge, protection, preservation, promotion and animation of their architectural, historical, written, artistic or landscape heritage.

Since then, the local authority has embarked on a wide-ranging programme of activities :

• presenting all aspects of our heritage
• promoting architectural quality
• raising residents' awareness of their environment
• introducing young people to architecture and town planning
• welcoming tourists
• implementing a programme with qualified staff
• developing training initiatives on local heritage.
